03 · What stands out
Full-frame and APS-C
A 50mm view on full frame, about 75mm on APS-C bodies.
The Sony FE 50mm F1.8 is a small, light standard prime for Sony E-mount cameras. On a full-frame body it gives the classic 50mm view, close to what your eye sees, and on APS-C bodies such as the a6700 or ZV-E10 it acts like a 75mm lens, a popular length for head-and-shoulders portraits. It weighs just 186 g (6.6 oz).
The bright F1.8 maximum aperture lets in plenty of light for indoor and evening shooting and helps blur the background behind your subject. Sony builds the FE 50mm F1.8 from 6 elements in 5 groups, including an aspherical element, with a 7-blade circular aperture for smooth out-of-focus areas. It focuses as close as 0.45 m (1.48 ft) with up to 0.14x magnification, and the angle of view is 47° on full frame and 32° on APS-C.
The box includes the round ALC-SH146 bayonet hood, a 49mm front cap and the rear cap, and filters use the 49mm thread. The FE 50mm F1.8 has no optical stabilization, so it pairs well with bodies that have in-body stabilization. It fits all Sony E-mount cameras, full-frame and APS-C.

Not the right pick if
- You need very fast, near-silent autofocus for professional video work
- You want a zoom range instead of one fixed focal length

Questions
Does the Sony FE 50mm F1.8 have image stabilization?
No. It relies on the camera, so it pairs well with in-body stabilized bodies such as the a7 IV or a6700.
Will the FE 50mm F1.8 work on APS-C Sony cameras?
Yes. It fits APS-C E-mount bodies like the ZV-E10 and a6700, where it gives a field of view similar to a 75mm lens on full frame.
Is the FE 50mm F1.8 good for portraits?
Its F1.8 aperture can blur the background behind a subject, and on APS-C bodies its 75mm-equivalent view is a common portrait length.
What filter size does the FE 50mm F1.8 take?
It takes 49mm filters, and the included ALC-SH146 round hood attaches with a bayonet.
