03 · What stands out

The Sony FE 35mm F1.8 is a compact, wide-normal prime for Sony E-mount cameras. On full frame its 35mm view suits street, travel, food and everyday photos with a little more context than a 50mm, and on APS-C bodies it acts like a 52.5mm lens. It weighs 280 g (9.9 oz).
Sony builds the FE 35mm F1.8 from 11 elements in 9 groups, including an aspherical element, with a 9-blade circular aperture for smooth background blur at F1.8. A linear-motor autofocus drive keeps focusing quick and quiet for stills and video. On the barrel you get a customizable focus hold button and an AF/MF switch.
The FE 35mm F1.8 focuses as close as 0.22 m (0.73 ft) with up to 0.24x magnification, handy for food and detail shots, and Sony lists a dust and moisture resistant design. The box includes the ALC-SH159 petal hood, a 55mm front cap and the rear cap, and filters use the 55mm thread.
The lens has no optical stabilization and relies on the camera's in-body system where available, and it is not compatible with Sony teleconverters. The Sony FE 35mm F1.8 fits all Sony E-mount cameras, full-frame and APS-C; ask us in Fullerton if you are choosing between a 35mm and a 50mm. See every camera lens we carry.

Is it for you?
Good for
- Travel and street photography with a natural wide view
- Food, interiors and close-up details thanks to 0.22 m focusing
- Video and vlogging on full-frame bodies with quiet autofocus
Not the right pick if
- You need optical stabilization in the lens on a body without in-body stabilization
- You want a tighter portrait view than 35mm gives on full frame
What the maker made it for
- Sony presents the FE 35mm F1.8 as a compact, light large-aperture prime for full-frame and APS-C cameras, for stills and movies.
Tips
- Fit the petal hood to reduce flare and protect the front element
- Use the front and rear caps whenever the lens is off the camera
- Wipe off rain or dust after outdoor use; the sealing resists it but is not a guarantee
In the box
- FE 35mm F1.8 lens
- Lens hood ALC-SH159
- Lens front cap ALC-F55S
- Lens rear cap ALC-R1EM

Questions
Does the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 have image stabilization?
No. Stabilization comes from the camera body, so it pairs well with in-body stabilized cameras like the a7 IV.
Is the FE 35mm F1.8 good for video?
Sony built it with a linear-motor AF drive for quiet, reliable tracking in movies as well as stills, and it has a focus hold button and AF/MF switch.
Will the FE 35mm F1.8 work on APS-C Sony cameras?
Yes. It fits APS-C E-mount bodies such as the ZV-E10 and a6700, where it gives a field of view similar to a 52.5mm lens.
What filter size does the FE 35mm F1.8 use?
It uses 55mm filters, and the included ALC-SH159 petal hood attaches with a bayonet.
