Overview
01 · What stands out
Large 1.4-type sensor
Canon's 22.3 MP sensor measures about 18.4 x 12.3 mm, far bigger than a phone's.
02 · What stands out
Ultra-wide built-in zoom
16-50mm equivalent at F2.8-4.5, wide enough to vlog at arm's length.
03 · What stands out
Made to keep filming
A built-in cooling fan, 4K up to 60p and Canon Log 3 in 10-bit.
The Canon PowerShot V1 is a compact, video-first vlogging camera for people who want much better footage than a phone without carrying a bag of lenses. Its built-in zoom starts ultra-wide, so you can hold it at arm's length and still fit yourself and the scene, then zoom in for product shots, food or portraits. The Canon PowerShot V1 suits vloggers, live streamers, travelers and anyone filming short-form content.
Canon built the Canon PowerShot V1 around a new 1.4-type CMOS sensor (about 18.4 x 12.3 mm) with 22.3 MP for stills and the DIGIC X processor. The 3.1x lens covers 16-50mm in full-frame terms for stills (about 17-52mm for video) at F2.8-4.5, with a built-in 3-stop ND filter and optical IS that Canon rates at about 5 stops, plus Movie Digital IS and Subject Tracking IS for video.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II tracks faces and eyes. Video on the Canon PowerShot V1 runs to 4K at 30p across the full sensor width, 4K 60p with a 1.4x crop and Full HD up to 120p, with Canon Log 3 in 10-bit. A built-in fan helps it keep recording longer, and a tally lamp shows when it is filming.
In the box with the Canon PowerShot V1 you get the camera, an LP-E17 battery, a wind screen for the built-in microphones, the WS-DC12 wrist strap and a shoe cover; the battery charges over USB-C, so add a USB power adapter if you need one, plus an SD card (the slot supports UHS-II). The 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen flips to face you, and the Canon PowerShot V1 has 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks, a multi-function shoe, micro HDMI and USB webcam support. Questions
Does the Canon PowerShot V1 have image stabilization?
Yes. The built-in lens has optical IS that Canon rates at about 5 stops, and for video you can add Movie Digital IS and Subject Tracking IS, which keeps a detected subject steady in the frame.
What video can the PowerShot V1 record?
Canon lists 4K UHD up to 30p from the full sensor width, 4K 60p with a 1.4x crop, and Full HD up to 120p. It also offers Canon Log 3 with 10-bit color, and a built-in fan helps it record longer.
What memory card does the PowerShot V1 use?
It has one SD card slot that takes SD, SDHC and SDXC cards and supports fast UHS-II cards, which help with high bit-rate 4K recording.
Is the PowerShot V1 sensor bigger than a 1-inch sensor?
Yes. Canon calls it a 1.4-type sensor measuring about 18.4 x 12.3 mm, larger than the 1-inch sensors used in many compact vlogging cameras.
