The FRP MB40 is a small gas mini bike for a child who is ready to get off the couch and learn something real in the backyard, with you right there. FRP makes it for ages 6 and up and asks for adult supervision at all times for riders under 14. It tops out at 18 mph, the seat is 19.7 inches high and the load limit is 165 lb, so a parent can judge the fit before the first ride.
The FRP MB40 keeps things simple. A 40cc 4-stroke engine starts with a pull cord, and the automatic clutch means no shifting: twist to go, squeeze to stop. Gas goes in the tank and oil stays in the engine, so there is no mixing. The maker lists up to 16 miles on a 0.65 liter tank. A rear disc brake, knobby 6.5 inch tires and a kill switch finish it, and the whole bike weighs 46.3 lb. A helmet is not included, and the maker calls for a DOT full-face helmet, gloves, pads, long pants and closed shoes.

- Before each ride, check the engine oil and add SAE 10W-40 if needed.
- Use unleaded gasoline, 87 octane or higher, and never mix oil into it.
- Keep the tires at 28 psi, checked cold.
- Stick to dirt, gravel and grass: hard surfaces wear the tires and they are less stable there.

What age is the FRP MB40 for?
FRP makes it for ages 6 and up, and its manual says never to let a child under 6 ride it. Adult supervision is required at all times for riders under 14. Weight and skill matter too: the limit is 165 lb and the seat is 19.7 in high.
Does my child need riding experience first?
The maker says none is required, but it strongly recommends some. There is no shifting, only throttle and brake. A child who has never ridden anything powered does well to start on a balance bike or an electric ride-on first.
How fast does the FRP MB40 go?
The maker lists 18 mph on flat, hard ground. Real speed changes with rider weight and terrain. Start in an open area and let your child build up slowly.
What safety gear does my child need?
