The 30-second version

An electric dirt bike for adults gives you a dirt bike’s punch with no gas, no engine oil and no exhaust roar, and it charges in your garage. In California most of them are off-highway electric motorcycles: since January 1, 2026 they need a DMV green sticker to ride public OHV land, and they cannot be made street legal. For daily street rides, pick an e-bike. For trails, our lower-priced picks start with the 115 lb Jasion Patrol 52 and the KENE KN110 PRO.

  • In California it is An off-highway electric motorcycle
  • DMV green sticker for public OHV land 2 years valid (OHMVR)
  • Street legal? No, and it cannot be converted
  • Gas bike noise limit off-highway 96 dBA at 20 inches
  • Lightest adult bike we carry 115 lb , the Jasion Patrol 52

You want an electric dirt bike for adults. Here’s what you’re actually tired of

In one lineKeep the launch, the dust and the grin. Drop the gas can, the oil changes, the 7 a.m. scream and the pull start.

You want the dirt bike. The launch out of a turn, the dust, the grin you can’t wipe off. What you don’t want is everything that comes with the gas one. That is where an electric dirt bike for adults comes in.

The gas can in the garage. The oil change every few rides. The smell on your jacket. The two-stroke scream at 7 a.m. that has your neighbor texting the HOA before you clear the driveway. The pull start that won’t. The carb that gums up because you skipped a month.

That’s the real search behind “electric dirt bike for adults.” Not a spec sheet. A way to keep the thrill and drop the hassle. Good news: that bike exists, and a few of them are sitting in our Fullerton store right now. Bad news first, though. Let’s count what gas really costs you.

An electric dirt bike for adults: the Jasion Patrol 52 Electric Dirt Bike
The Jasion Patrol 52 Electric Dirt Bike, the lightest adult electric dirt bike we carry at 115 lb on the maker’s spec sheet.

What a gas dirt bike costs you before you even ride

In one lineA gas race bike wants attention about every 2.5 hours, is allowed 96 dBA off-highway, and keeps losing ground to the rules.

Your weekends go to the garage

The number that matters

of riding, or each race: that is where Honda’s CRF450R handbook starts its upkeep list, from engine oil to the piston rings.8

Go deeperWhat Honda’s CRF450R upkeep list asks of you

Open the upkeep schedule of a gas race bike and you’ll find a second job. Honda’s handbook for its CRF450R counts upkeep in races and hours, starting at each race or about 2.5 hours, and the list runs from engine oil and the oil filter to the spark plug, the valve clearance and the piston and piston rings.8 In dusty conditions, it says to clean the air filter after every heat.8 That’s a lot of Saturday mornings spent with your hands in solvent, and none of them on an electric dirt bike for adults.

The noise has a legal ceiling for a reason

California caps the noise of an off-highway vehicle built since 1986 at 96 dBA, measured 20 inches away under the SAE J1287 test, and every off-highway vehicle on public land must carry a silencer.5 For scale: NIOSH sets 85 dBA over an 8-hour day as the line where noise turns hazardous for workers, and every 3 dB above it halves the safe time.6 Your neighbors don’t need a decibel meter to know which side of that line your bike lives on.

Every 3 dB above 85 halves the safe time (NIOSH).

The rules keep squeezing gas bikes

CARB’s own rider guidance says most current two-stroke models don’t meet its emission standards.7 Gas bikes sold for competition only can’t get a green or red sticker at all, so they can’t be ridden for fun on public land outside a race.7 Buy the wrong gas bike and you own a garage ornament with a fuel tank.

What an electric dirt bike for adults feels like instead

In one lineNo clutch, no exhaust, no gas run: the torque hits from a standstill and the battery charges in your garage.

Twist the throttle. No clutch, no gears, no warm-up. An electric motor hits hard from a standstill: Jasion says its Patrol 52 makes 145 N·m of torque and runs 0 to 20 mph in 3.5 seconds.16 The Rerode R1 lists 390 N·m.19 That’s the shove dirt riders chase, delivered the instant you ask for it.

The SRPNT X3 figure is measured at the motor shaft.

Then listen. An electric dirt bike for adults has no exhaust. You hear the chain, the tires biting dirt, your own breathing. You can talk to the friend riding next to you. You can roll out of the garage without waking the street.

Then park it. No gas run on the way to the trail. No engine oil. You plug the battery in like a phone and wake up to a full charge. Jasion lists about 3.5 hours with fast charging on the Patrol 52; KENE says 6 to 8 hours for the KN110 PRO; Yozma says 6 to 7 for the IN 10 Pro.161718

Go deeperThe straight note: what “no oil” really means

One straight note, because we don’t sell fairy tales: “no oil” means no engine oil, not zero upkeep. Chains, brakes, tires and suspension still need care, and a few mid-drive bikes have a gearbox. Throne asks for gear oil every 1,500 km on the SRPNT X3.20 Still a fraction of the gas list, which is the point of an electric dirt bike for adults.

What is an electric dirt bike for adults, exactly?

In one lineIn California it is an off-highway electric motorcycle: no pedals from the maker, and not an e-bike, moped or motorized bicycle.

In California it has a legal name now. SB 586 added Vehicle Code Section 436.1, in force since January 1, 2026: an off-highway electric motorcycle is built mainly for off-highway use, runs on an electric motor, steers with handlebars, has a straddle seat and two wheels, and comes with no pedals from the maker.1 The DMV calls them eMotos.2

That puts an electric dirt bike for adults in a different box from an e-bike. California’s e-bike rules stop at a motor under 750 W with working pedals, and the state’s bulletin says plainly that these eMotos are not e-bikes, not mopeds and not motorized bicycles.1 Bolting pedals on doesn’t change that either.1 Our guide to an e-bike or electric motorcycle walks through the line, and this tool shows where any ride we carry lands:

Is an electric dirt bike for adults street legal in California?

In one lineNo: it can’t be registered for the road or converted. Public OHV land needs a green sticker; private land needs permission.

No. Here is the whole legal picture in one section, and then we go riding.

  • Not street legal, not convertible. The state says these bikes can’t ride on highways, streets, sidewalks, bike paths, bike lanes or parking lots, can’t be registered for the road and can’t be modified to become street legal.1
  • A green sticker for public OHV land. Ride on public land or private land open to the public and the bike needs a California OHV green sticker from the DMV.13 The OHMVR says it is valid for two years.4
  • Private land with permission is the exception. No sticker is needed on private property under the landowner’s direct control and permission.1
  • Get caught on the street and it costs you. The state lists citations for an unregistered vehicle and an unlicensed motorcycle operator on a highway, and from 2026 officers can tow an unlicensed rider’s electric vehicle that can top 20 mph.1

Where to ride an electric dirt bike for adults in Southern California

In one lineNot the Santa Ana River Trail or OC Parks trails. Load up for Hungry Valley, Ocotillo Wells, Stoddard Valley or private land.

Not on the Santa Ana River Trail. OC Parks bans electric and gas dirt bikes on its paved regional bikeways, which allow only Class 1 and 2 e-bikes, and keeps every class of e-bike off unpaved trails in its regional and wilderness parks.9 So Craig Regional Park and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park are out too. Load up your electric dirt bike for adults and head for land built for this:

  • Hungry Valley SVRA, in the Tejon Pass north of Los Angeles along Interstate 5: 19,000 acres and more than 130 miles of trails for motorcycles and more, for every skill level.10
  • Ocotillo Wells SVRA: about 85,000 acres of desert open to off-highway riding, with BLM land open beyond its south and east edges.11
  • Stoddard Valley OHV Area, just south of Barstow: a 53,000-acre BLM open riding area with novice ground in the central valley and harder lines in the Stoddard Mountains.12
  • Private land, with the owner’s say-so: no sticker needed there.1

How to choose an electric dirt bike for adults

In one lineFive checks on any electric dirt bike for adults: watt-hours, weight, fit, suspension with payload, and brakes for the speed.

  1. Volts and amp-hours

Multiply them: watt-hours are the size of your fuel tank.

  2. Weight you can handle

You will drop it, lift it and push it up a ramp.

  3. Fit

You must reach and work every control from the seat.

  4. Suspension and payload

Real trails need real suspension; you plus your gear stay under the payload.

  5. Brakes that match the speed

Faster bike, bigger brakes. Firm levers, not spongy.

1. Volts and amp-hours, not just watts

Multiply the two and you get watt-hours, the size of your fuel tank. The Jasion Patrol 52 runs 52 V and 30 Ah, about 1,560 Wh; the KENE KN110 PRO runs 48 V and 30 Ah, about 1,440 Wh.1617 Higher voltage usually means more top speed: Throne’s Shadow line climbs from 48 V to 60 V to 72 V, and its listed top speed climbs with it.131415 Read range numbers with a squint. KENE rates the KN110 PRO at 30 to 70 miles, but its own FAQ says up to 30 miles on electric power alone.17

Read range with a squint

30 to 70 miles on the KN110 PRO’s page, up to 30 on electric power alone in KENE’s own FAQ. Plan on the smaller number.17

2. Weight you can handle

You will drop your electric dirt bike for adults, lift it, and push it up a ramp into your truck. The adult bikes we carry run from 115 lb for the Patrol 52 to 130 lb for the Rerode R1, 132 lb for the KN110 PRO and 143 lb for the Yozma IN 10 Pro.16191718 Throne lists the SRPNT X3 at 73 kg, about 161 lb.20 Lighter is easier to learn on and easier to pick up.

3. Fit: can you reach everything?

The state’s OHV FAQ puts it simply: the rider must be able to reach and work every control.4 Check the maker’s rider height. Jasion lists 5’7” to 6’7” for the Patrol 52, KENE 5’9” to 6’3” for the KN110 PRO, and Yozma 4.7 to 6.3 ft for the IN 10 Pro.161718 Throne gives stand-over heights instead: 28 inches on the Shadow 48V, 30 on the 60V and 32 on the 72V.131415

4. Suspension and payload

Real trails need real suspension. Throne fits hydraulic suspension front and rear on the Shadow 48V and 60V and Fast Ace on the 72V; Yozma pairs an inverted hydraulic fork with a nitrogen rear shock.13141518 Then check payload against you plus your gear: 330 lb on the Patrol 52, KN110 PRO and IN 10 Pro, 280 lb on the Shadow 72V, 240 lb on the 60V, 220 lb on the Rerode R1 and 180 lb on the Shadow 48V.16171815141913

5. Brakes that match the speed

Faster bike, bigger brakes. Jasion fits hydraulic disc brakes on the Patrol 52, and Rerode uses a DOT 4 brake system on the R1.1619 Squeeze the levers on any electric dirt bike for adults in the store. They should feel firm, not spongy.

More questions people ask about an electric dirt bike for adults

Which is the best electric dirt bike for adults?

The one that fits your body, your trails and your garage. New to dirt? Start light and lower-powered, like the Jasion Patrol 52 at 115 lb.16 Riding with experience and want speed? Look at the 72 V Throne Shadow or the Rerode R1.1519 Sit on two before you decide.

What electric dirt bike can reach 50 mph for adults?

On the makers’ own figures: the Yozma IN 10 Pro lists 50 mph, the Throne Shadow 72V 50 to 53 mph, and the Rerode R1 55 mph.181519 Throne lists the SRPNT X3 at 90 km/h, about 56 mph.20

Is there an electric dirt bike for adults that can go 100 mph?

Not among the bikes we carry: none of their maker pages lists anything near it. Even the state’s own eMoto chart tops out at 77 mph.1 And on public OHV land, faster mostly means more ways to get hurt.

How fast does a 3000W electric dirt bike go?

It depends on voltage, gearing and your weight. Two 3000 W peak bikes we carry show the spread: Throne lists the 48 V Shadow at 32 to 34 mph, and KENE lists the KN110 PRO at up to 39 mph.1317

How fast is a 72V 5000W or 8000W electric dirt bike?

There’s no single number. As a guide from Throne’s line: the 60 V Shadow at 5000 W peak lists 47 to 49 mph, and the 72 V Shadow at 7000 W peak lists 50 to 53 mph.1415 Gearing and wheel size move it a lot.

What is the fastest electric dirt bike under $3000?

Prices move, so compare peak watts and the maker’s top speed, and ask us what each one costs today. Among the bikes above, the Throne Shadow 72V and the Yozma IN 10 Pro both list about 50 mph or more.1518

What e-bikes should you stay away from?

Anything sold as an “e-bike” that is really a motorcycle. California made it a crime to advertise or sell an off-highway electric motorcycle as an electric bicycle.1 Our guide to e-bikes to stay away from lists the red flags.

Do I need a license to ride an electric dirt bike off-road in California?

Off-road you need the green sticker on the bike for public OHV land, not a road license, and no sticker on private land with the owner’s permission.1 Ride it on a street and the state lists a citation for an unlicensed motorcycle operator.1 Keep your electric dirt bike for adults on the dirt.
